As a new parent there's almost no more accomplished feeling than seeing your little one tucked in and sleeping for the night. Notice I say "almost" because when I see my son reach his monthly milestones, like his first smile, the first time he held his soother, rattle, or beat on his drum, I'm filled with an overwhelming joy. There's so much pride when the little life I created does amazing things. And, of course, everything Maverick does right now is absolutely amazing. He can literally do no wrong. I mean, that's what being an infant's all about, right? Just being a perfect little human being who's every second of life is the purest gift for all those around.
Maverick's going to be three months old in 6 days and we had such an adventurous day. We pulled out the exersaucer, and I know, I know--they aren't recommended until at least four months of age. But my boy is incredibly strong (he's been practically holding his own head up since birth). And when my hubby and I hold him upright he stands and jumps and uses his legs all on his own. So today he was being a tad bit grouchy and we had tried everything--the only way to calm him was to hold him upright so he could stretch his little legs and practice standing. So we decided to put him in the exersaucer and it was instant joy! He was playing with the piano, and lots of other little learning gadgets. We were so proud of him!!!
I'm completely awe-struck to think of the huge leaps he has in his intellectual growth. Every day he continues to understand more, babble more, he laughs sometimes (little cries of joy here and there). It's so friggen incredible.
Back onto the topic of sleep, we stick to a consistent bedtime routine. Despite the lengths of his naps during the day a good bedtime routine really helps Maverick go down in the evenings. We always give him a bath at 7:00pm and then I rub lotion on him and read him a book (our favourite is Love You Forever by Robert Munsch) and he's usually out like a light. Sometimes he takes a little milk to make him sleepy, but overall our routine really works.
Yesterday I made the mistake of playing with him a little too much after his bath and ended up making it hard to put him to sleep, resulting in a pretty grumpy boy. Last night I tried everything to calm him down but nothing really worked and finally he fell asleep a little passed midnight. Tonight it's a much different story:
It definitely helps to stay calm and keep a really relaxing, quiet, and dim-lit setting to put him down. When he's sleeping it gives me a chance to take a shower, blog, bake or clean... or spend some much needed quality time with my better half. Tonight I'm blogging lol 😊.
Well, I hope you enjoyed this read and I'll be back soon for more mommy-topics. Please leave a comment about your bedtime routine or any tips you use! Good night and sleep tight!
